In May 1999, New Jersey returned to AAA-12A numbering, which was discontinued in 1992.

The new series started at JAA-10A
(the 1992 series left off at HZZ, and the "I" series was skipped).
 Issued 1999     JAA-10A ... JMZ-99Z
Starting in November 1999, New Jersey started using plate stickers.
The first stickers expired in November 2000.

Check out the Monthly Run page for closeups of the stickers and
pictures of one plate from each month !!

From this point on, plate dates will be tracked by expiration (sticker) date rather than issue date.
 Expire 2000     JNA-10A ... JTZ-99Z
"2000" plates refer only refer to
those expiring in November
and December of 2000.
 Expire 2001     JUA-10A ... KXZ-99Z
 Expire 2002     KYA-10A ... MHZ-99Z
In March 2001, somewhere between the LGU and LHC series, the plates changed
from using 3M reflective sheeting to AVERY reflective sheeting.

The visible differences are the brightness of the new plates and the spacing on the "New Jersey".

3M Base

Avery Base

 Expire 2003     MJA-10A ... NNZ-99Z
 Expire 2004     NPA-10A ... PWZ-99Z
The "O" series
was not issued.
 Expire 2005     PXA-10A ... RUZ-99Z
In 2003-2004, we found out that Avery sheeting ... well ... it stinks.
It peels off the metal backing almost immediately.

So New Jersey switched back to 3M sheeting at this point.
The first "3M-2" plates started with the PXS prefix in 2004
(stickered Jan 2005).
The "Q" series
was not issued.

As of October 1, 2004, New Jersey DISCONTINUED plate stickers.
So, the last "natural 2005" plates have September 2005 stickers.

Stickers for the remaining months of 2005 were already issued,
but only through the mail for registration renewals.

While 10/2005's are common, 11's and 12's are somewhat rare.
 Issued 2004     October - December:   RVA-10A ... SBZ-99Z
Starting around the RVA- series, plates are now unstickered again.

From this point forawrd, for unstickered plates, I'll go back to listing by issue date.
 Issued 2005     SCA-10A ... UGZ-99Z
The "T" series
was not issued.
(Used on trailers.)
This is a 2005 plate made on an old 3M base.

I will be looking for more...
